VSMPO case study

Find out how VSMPO Tirus improved tool life by 10% and cut cycle times by 12%.

When global titanium leader VSMPO Tirus took its first steps into in-house machining at its Redditch facility, the pressure was on to deliver precision, performance, and productivity fast. Backed by Jemtech, the UK’s advanced fluid management specialist and exclusive distributor of Blaser Swisslube, the results have been transformational.

The Challenge

VSMPO Tirus UK, part of the world’s largest titanium producer, was already a critical supplier to the aerospace sector, which accounts for 99% of its turnover. With titanium demand soaring and customers seeking faster, value-added solutions, the Redditch site expanded to include a dedicated machining facility for first-stage processes-like stock removal and fixture creation.

But machining titanium isn’t easy. The material is notoriously difficult to cut, with high tool wear and heat generation. Choosing the right metalworking fluid would be vital to success.

The solution

A visit to Blaser Swisslube’s HQ in Switzerland during an aerospace seminar sparked the turning point. VSMPO Tirus’ operations team saw first-hand the synergy between Blaser’s advanced fluids and Jemtech’s on-the-ground support.

They selected Blaser Vasco 7000, a vegetable ester-based micro emulsion fluid engineered specifically for tough materials like titanium. Its clean-running formula, long sump life, and operator-safe chemistry made it a natural fit. Jemtech provided Vasco to run on trial basis in 2019 and with some technical consultation, VSMPO Tirus started to see some notable improvements.

The results

The introduction of Vasco 7000 didn’t just meet expectations – it exceeded them:
